Front wishbones wiring dash calipers routeing for exhaust piping fuel tank cover , seating , belts rear and front dampers, front anti roll bar, brake master cylinders fitted brake discs front suspension bodywork painted Since the start of the year, a significant amount of work has taken place on the 1992 Reynard FF1600 that Shaws Motorsport and I are building for the 2026 season. Being involved in this process is important to me as a driver, as it allows me to understand how

Mechanical grip – FF1600 vs Simulator
I actively work on and race classic FF1600 with the BRSCC in the Geoff Page Engineering Super Classic Pre ’99 Formula Ford Championship. Alongside this, I spend a significant amount of time on the simulator, driving both classic and modern Formula Ford cars around a variety of British circuits. To compare simulator driving to real-life driving, it’s important first to understand what mechanical grip is and how a driver experiences it. From a driver’s perspective, mechanical g

Racing a 50 year-old FF1600 vs a Modern day FF1600
Many innovations and changes have happened in 50 years but how does that effect the chassis characteristics or what you learn from driving the car? Here I will dive into the small but meaningful advances and differences between the cars on how they drive , what they teach you as a driver and what type of skills are required to extract the most out of the cars. Starting off with how the cars feel , how they perform underload and in different conditions. The classic car is sof

Racing an X30 IAME Kart vs Racing a FF1600
Moving from X30 IAME karts to FF1600 cars is more than a speed change, its a physical and mental shift. From sudden and continuous action in a kart to more methodical and mentally demanding driving in a FF1600. FF1600 vs X30 Kart Karting trains the physical strength of a driver as the lack of suspension punishes the body coupled with the intense and fast paced circuits. Furthermore you learn about using weight transfer in the wet and how to use your body weight to your advant

Working on the Reynard update #2
Firstly I worked on the sidepods for the body work using paint stripper and a scraper to get all the old blue paint of so it could go to the Bodyshop with the main bodywork to be painted. Then they were sanded down to get any paint left removed as we wanted to get the car as light as possible and painting over the old paint would cost us a fair bit of extra weight. Sanded Sidepods for the Reynard Then whilst I was away the rear suspension had been fitted for the most part as

Endurance race at Brands Hatch
I joined an old karting teammate, Lee Whittingham , at brands to compete in the MSVT Trackday Championships last round. Driving a 2004 Mini cooper that had done 160,000 miles and its only modifications were BC coilovers , sports exhaust , air filter and 15" alloys allowing us to run Nankang track day tyres. It's bhp was estimated at 110bhp which hurt us quite a lot down the straights. We arrived at the track on the 15th with heavy fog settling on the circuit. I was the first

Working on the Reynard update #1
The team I race with , Shaws Motorsport , I also do some work for which builds my mechanical knowledge and allows me to help build my car for 2026. We started by putting the basic sidepods on that hold the radiators and taping some of the chassis up to protect it from scratches. Furthermore we managed to get the gear box on and start to build some of the rear suspension. The main bottleneck currently is the fuel tank as the filler neck is currently to tall and needs to be mov

Walter Hayes Trophy Result
In a Royale RP21 with Shaws Motorsport. We started the weekend on Thursday as i had paid for Thursday Friday testing for the race weekend. Hitting the track for the first time ever on Thursday morning in damp conditions proved difficult as i had to get to grips with a new track again in tricky conditions. Yet the week before i had completed some critical sim work that allowed me to get to grips with the circuit quickly. The track slowly dried throughout the day ending in a dr

Result of the Formula Ford Festival
In a Royale RP21 with Shaws Motorsport. Started the weekend on Thursday arriving at the track to get setup with the team. Due to saving for the Walter Hayes , we weren't able to test in the week so i helped the team on the Thursday and Friday setting up and teammates testing. On Saturday morning qualifying was the first time i had driven the track in the Royale RP21, it proved difficult as my rivals had done a weeks testing so they were dialled in. Nevertheless I pushed on
